Degree show looming upon us all and think everyone is feeling the strain. Im trying not to keep saying how many weeks it is we have left but i will have to soon... Degree show space is getting cleverly designed and is beginning to take shape so we will all have a lovely space to showcase our work.

My design has come on a bit since my last entry on here.

I have a final shape - FINALLY! and just wokring on a 3d model in time for a physical model MY FAV....not) and visuals. was out taking some photos today of the site i have in Newport down on the riverfront. I am going to be using this site as an example and representatve of all the twinned cities and towns across the world as it is easily accesible for myself to enter.

Looking into ideas for the interior of my twiNNing environment i began looking into parasite architecture which involves what looks like - structures which cling off another existing strucure. I thought of using this as an interesting interior to house the screens and communication devices i will be using.
I found a few interesting images and then made models and began playing around with the shapes i developed.

How to make Twinning meaningful????

We had a round table event On Monday 24th January 2010 where we had to create a small presentation to explain to external examiners and a few other important people involved with the University and the Industry. This is my presentation explaning where i am at in my development process.
I am creating small exterior structures located between twin cities and towns all across the world. They will be temporary structures and will have the option of moving around twins across the world to important places in a community (e.g Library, School, Church) to allow communication and create a tighter bond.
The will be digitally enhanced between 2 stages of the experience. A room to view, watch and listen using screens and playback recordings of the sister structure or 'pod'. The moving onto private booths where the user can reply to a chosen recipent or 'pen pal' and communicate.

I have been looking into twins and twin anything really to create some sort of solid connection between the spaces. I looked at how twin towers are connected and twin structures. I found out abou twin traits and personalities and have been playing around with DNA shapes.

So i cant really just plonk tv sets everywhere, connect them up to internet and a camera and wa - lah. So to speak.

I need to come up with an idea that is new and will work. While developing i came up with this design. It is a circular exterior design based on religion between cities and towns all over the world - the circle representing the world shape and a connecting or a ‘whole’ space.

The gaps in the circle represent the gap to make and share your own memories, giving the user a chance to ‘fill’ the gaps. Like Porosity. (meaning a blank or void space between materials) Whilst playing with the idea of a memory never being fully formed - these gaps and the circular shape become vastly important. (Important on a worldy scale?? Possibly…. ) The walls of the outer circle have screens on them which would play recordings, show photographs or produce a live feed from another part of the world in order to communicate. The user can pick and choose who to reply or talk to. This is still a work in progress - obviously.

The interior secion of this, although hard to see is a developed DNA shape. Playing around with the idea of twins i took the shape and tried to develop it in a way it could be used, but in a subtle way. This interior part would preferably be covered from the environmental effects of the weather etc but im working on that.. I want the interior part to be an important connecting piece and show twin personality traits through the way it commnicates with the other ‘pods’ or spaces.

Just keeping myself updated. It makes life a whole lot easier writing to yourself and i suppose to anyone else who is reading this.
